#255: Seinfeld Song

I find it annoying that I'm the only one that seems to see the similarity between Bobby Brown's My Prerogative and the Seinfeld theme song. Listen closely to that background synthesizer at the :18 mark in Seinfeld and then envision a sped-up chorus of BB without the words. I'm telling you, it's there. Now, BB doesn't really deserve any lawsuit money what with that gumby haircut he sported at one time along with the various beatings he metted out on people, but I think he's entitled to some restitution if his lawyers discover my findings. Oh, and by the way, My Prerogative hit #1 and came out in 1988, just 1 year before the Seinfeld Chronicles special was released in 1989. Everyone I tell this too doesn't see it and it's frustrating. Severity: 2

Ok, now I finally heard just what the hell you were talking about. Yeah, that little bit of keyboard/synth is similar, but I wouldn't say that they're exact, and it's such a basic little tune (or portion of a tune) that I would call it coincidence more than anything else. I mean, it's not like Vanilla Ice vs. David Bowie.

I have a similar issue with the song "1985" by Bowling for Soup. I think the chorus, which goes..."Bruce Springsteen, Madonna, way before Nirvana, there was U2 and Blondie and music still on MTV" sounds an AWFUL lot like, "fried ham, fried ham, cheese and boloney, and after the macaroni, we'll have pizza and pretzels and then we'll have some more fried ham, fried ham, fried ham."

Nobody "gets it" on this similarity either.

HEY! I have been telling that to my husband for some time now! I thought for sure that it was the Bobby Brown My Prerogative song that Seinfeld used!

Boy am I glad I am not the only one!
