#438: On field / ice camera guys after scores

Mainly seen during post-season baseball, this is the lame practice of networks having a camera guy running around the bases with the hitter to get a close shot if his trot,  takes away from the triumph and now seeing it in the Olympics after a goal with a lamo camera guy in skates.  Let the players have their moment,  severity: 4

#437: Pizza deals for 2 pizzas pricing

You see Papa Johns and the other subpar chains with these commercial advertising 2 pizzas for $6.99 each.  Why can't they just say $14?  Obviously, it's because they hope you don't realize that's the cost is 2x the show price and you have to buy 2 to get that price.  Scam. Severity: 3

#436: New Car Window Sticker non-removal

When buying a new car there is some warning sticker on the driver's window, like those mattress tags that say only to be removed by consumer.  I see so many cars where people have these stickers and wonder why, as they hinder one's view and look lame.  Lazy people.  Severity: 3

#435: Toilet Paper Width Shrinking

Common for years in products, shrinkflation has been going on with subtle shrinking of product sizes to try to keep the prices level while providing less, either due to cost pressure in production or simply wanting more profits for the companies.  I have hated this always because I think a disclaimer should be required on the product for a 6 month period notifying the size is smaller, when it's subtle.

But with the trend in toilet paper rolls, it's SO sneaky where you really have to have a keen eye to notice that this just smacks as a total scam in my book and should be illegal to do without a notification on the package.  This is a product that no one is going to see the specs because of all the dimensions and notice it's less, unlike maybe a bottle of soda that is clearly marked with one measure.  Just opened a new package and thought it looked narrower and measured against the old one and indeed, it's 1/8th or so inch less.  This is on top of previous reductions over the past couple years.  Severity: 5

#434: TV promotions to win X's Money

Fox sports is the big user of this dumb contest to win some money and they claim it's one of their broadcaster's.  Namely Terry Bradshaw, as an example.  Obviously, it's not their money or they just give them an equivalent bonus to cover it so it's lame they think it will be more enticing than just normal money.  Severity: 2

#433: Heat and A/C on the Same Day

Unless living in an extreme location like Death Valley or the Sahara Desert, there should never be a need for someone in a house or apartment to use the heat and air conditioning in the same day.  If it cools down at night and early morning, you should know it will warm up quickly later in the day, so just deal with the few degrees of being below you optimal temperature rather than waste energy heating up the house, only to have it too hot later.  Same goes in the other direction when one could use natural cooling at night to cool down the house rather than use the A/C for maybe a brief period where the temperature is slightly above the optimal temp.  Severity: 4

#432: Kid Going to College Signs

It's common to see people with signs on their front lawn proclaiming their kid graduating from highschool with class of 'xx signs, which is fine, but today saw one bragging about their kid going to a college.  And not even a very prestigious one, St. Mary's.  To me, that is some shameful boasting that is just about free advertising for the college which is duping the parents.  Severity: 3

#431: Stockpiling of Bottled Water During Pandemic

During the pandemic, whenever stockpiling occurs, people are including bottled water in crazy amounts in their panic buying.  This is despite there being no danger to the water supply from the virus so there is no reason for people wasting money and creating excess trash buy stocking up on this product, especially given people are not even going anywhere.  Foolishness.  Severity: 4

#430: The touching of a thing at end of a run

This is odd one that I am not sure why I dislike but it surrounds things on popular routes of running or walking that people like to touch as some sort of accomplishment before they reverse and return the other direction.  I saw  itr and reminded me of a big one these at Fort Point in SF.

#429: Wearing Masks When Not Needed

During the virus pandemic, when you are just walking outside in an non-congested area, you don't need to wear a mask, yet many seem to think they have to or need to.  Waste.  Save the use for when needed.  Can't imagine why anyone would exercise with one on when not around others or then can be easily avoided.  Severity: 4

#428: "Give you back 15 minutes"

In conference calls, when the meetings ends early, and the meeting leader likes to say "I'll give you back 15 minutes to your day" like they are being magnanimous rather than having had an unnecessary meeting to begin with that wasted 45 minutes of my day.  Severity: 3

#427: Swim suit spin dryer overuse

You only need maybe 3 seconds to use the spin dryer to dry a bathing suit yet many sit there for 20 seconds thinking they have to get it bone dry.  Just needs a little and then air dry later.  Keeps me waiting and also bad for the fabric.  Severity: 2

#426: Credit Card Cash Back vs. Gift Card Usage for Points

Currently have a cash back credit card that has the standard 1 point = 1 cent for cash back purposes.  They also offer an option to redeem the points for gift cards.  However, I find it dumb that the gift card rate is the same as cash back rate.  Why would anyone redeem for a gift card when there is not a better conversion rate?  They should offer a discount for gift card redeeming; like you only need 4,900 points to get a $50 gift card.  They offer this on a few select gift cards, but all should have some discount.  Severity: 2

#425: Black License Plates Improper Usage

California issued the classic black license plates from the 60's a few years back and I think it's great for people that have classic cars, but for anyone else getting them for newer cars, LAME!

#424: Butterflies that won't just chill

Often in my backyard, a nice butterfly will flutter around spasmatically and I'd like to check it out a bit but always jams away.  Plenty of good spots to land so don't know why they're always in such a rush.  Severity: 1

#423: No dialog punctuation

In many books lately I'm noticing a trend for authors not putting normal quotes around dialog and just mixing it in with narration.  This is some stream of conscious or arty thing but I find it confusing as a reader and dislike.  Severity: 2

#422: Unnecessary usage of surgical masks

With the current fires raging in the Sonoma and Napa, there is definitely some smoke in the air around SF and Oakland.  But nowhere near the amount that requires people wearing masks.  I've been in bowling alley that had way worse air and live to tell the tale.  And then later in the day, I barely can smell smoke and yet these people are walking around like it's Doomsday.  Grow a pair.  Severity: 3

#421:Urban Deforestation

For a variety of reasons, vegetation is being cut down in and around cities.  Whether due to people being overly scared about fire, homeowners being overly concerned about conserving water or too lazy to rake leaves, or just a general aesthetic to want nature to be "tamed", a lot of the nice greenery that I enjoyed around my house in Oakland is being thinned out and I find it sad.  It takes away from privacy and make it less peaceful.  Especially along Highway 13, the removal is dramatic, causing noise pollution in the surround hiking trails and for the unfortunate people living near the freeway that used to have a natural sound barrier.  I think it's some economic reason too that the tree cutting companies have incentive to keep working so recommend more than necessary and Caltrans has a budget they have to spend or lose it.  Severity: 5

#420: Drivers moving over for motorcycle slot riders

I actually am in favor of the CA law allowing lane-splitting so motorcycles can benefit in slow traffic.  I do think that there should be a speed restriction to around 40 MPH or so for the traffic to be at for them to do it.  But in any regard, my annoyance is at the drivers who, when they see a motorcycle coming up behind them splitting the lane and they are in the far left lane, move WAY over to the left to give them more room.  Don't coddle these guys.  They are big boys and know you should be going out of your way to make it easier for them.  I'm not going to purposely block them, but I will not cater to their whims, especially given they do it often when traffic is already moving a nice pace.  Severity: 5

#419: Bubble Tea

No comments, just dislike it.
